Leaders of the Church of the Holy Comforter (Episcopal) in Vienna are seeking permits from Fairfax County and the town of Vienna to proceed with their plan of building a solar array on the site’s lower parking lot, in their noble and ambitious bid to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
The project is getting experienced construction advice from Dan Govan, principal at Govan Builders Inc. in Vienna. Govan, who has been a parishioner at Holy Comforter for 22 years, said church leaders asked him to bring his building knowledge to bear for the solar initiative.

We had a great experience with Govan Builders. The project involved opening up the main level of our 1970s split level, renovating the kitchen, and adding a patio. We had never been through a major remodel before, and the Govan team was helpful from start to finish. We are really happy with the finished product, and are impressed that they were able to keep to the budget and timeline. We highly recommend this team!
Govan Builders renovated our master bath and built an addition over our garage. These are now probably our two favorite rooms in the house–and the garage addition (a new office) has been an absolute saving grace in the pandemic. Dan also did a major addition for my mom’s house that she is thrilled with. As an initial matter, Dan Govan’s proposals are great–very detailed, thorough, and fairly priced based on what we saw from other contractors, so we knew very clearly what we were getting and what we were paying for it from the outset. That was really helpful in planning and avoiding surprises. Communication was also great throughout, including Brian being an incredibly helpful and responsive project manager and Dan providing detailed responses to my (many) questions in the planning phase and when they came up during the process. The quality of the work was uniformly outstanding. On the couple of occasions where issues arose during construction (which seems to be an inevitability in any project), they were fixed immediately. It was not always easy (twice) living in a house undergoing major renovations, but we had faith it would be worth it (especially the second time around) because the final product would be great–and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend Dan for great quality work, excellent communication, and fair and clear proposals.
Used Govan Builders to repair some major storm damage on our house. Dan and his team are terriffic. The quality of repairs were excellent and done quickly and efficiently. In addition to doing great work, Dan and his team are very responsive, professional and easy to work with. Top notch service and great work. Would recommend them very highly!
